an intimate maternity session

After photographing their wedding and a few other milestones for these two, they reached out for the maternity session this summer. Michell and Derek are always a dream to work with. Their happy place is on their ranch in Elk Creek, CA, so I hopped in my big ol' truck and headed out for a morning maternity session with their horses here in beautiful Northern California.

I just loved this photoshoot so much and here's why.

For one, The Holmeses have let me into so much of their life. Michell and I met years ago through other clients of mine (shoutout The Fords). Michell always told me that one day when she got married, I'd be there. And guess what? I was. I had the privilege of photographing their engagement photos, Christmas photos, a branding at their ranch -- all before their wedding even came around. And when it did, it was a BLAST!

And this is what I mean when I say I love to photograph every milestone. It just means so much to me to be trusted to bring to life moments in your history past, present and future.

Another reason I just adored their maternity session is: home is where the heart is. Don't get me wrong - I have a bajillion locations across the US that I'm ready to take you to, but when you have a space in or near your home that you're obsessed with, I'm the #1 advocate for it. I think photos are just so important and so special already, but adding the layer of intimacy that comes with having your photos taken in a place you love most? Iconic.
